Each year, Kappa Kappa Psi offers scholarships worth $500 dollars to one outstanding freshman and a fourth year senior in the marching band. The Andrea Smith Memorial Scholarship was created to honor a member of the band who passed during the marching season in the early 1990's. The freshman chosen for this award demonstrates the qualities that Andrea possessed; respect, dedication, leadership, and PRIDE. The Frank "Doc" Stevens Memorial Scholarship, which was named to honor our longtime friend and announcer, is given to a four-year senior who is a distinguished leader in the band, has shown persistence, and most importantly, exhibits PRIDE.  For the spring, the Omicron Chapter is currently developing the Don Wilcox Concert Band Scholarship, in honor of a very extraordinary band director. It will be given out starting in the Spring 2010 to honor outstanding musical leaders in the concert setting. Any member of a concert ensemble will be eligible.

There is a nomination process for each scholarship. Any member of the band has the opportunity to nominate a person they feel exhibits these qualities. A panel of their peers will interview the nominees. The winners for the marching band scholarships will be announced during the annual band banquet, and the winner of the concert band scholarship will be announced during their end of the year concert. It is truly an honor to be nominated, because these scholarships have been awarded to some of the best leaders who have been in the West Virginia University band programs.   The nomination forms will be available at practices, and are available on our website. Listen for announcements and updates throughout the season, and keep a lookout for freshmen, seniors, and those in the concert bands that exhibit these qualities and are worthy of a nomination.
