Kappa Kappa Psi Needs You

I would first like to congratulate all members and welcome back the returning vets to the 2011 season of The Pride of West Virginia! It’s looking to be a great year once again and I hope you are excited about what is to come. I would also like to talk about a group of people that are going to be helping you beginning with registration for band camp and throughout the upcoming marching season.

The Omicron Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi is the National Co-Ed Honorary Band Fraternity at West Virginia University. Our main goal is to serve all band programs at WVU and ensure that things run smoothly for all groups here at the university. We participate in many service projects such as pre-band camp work where we get the uniforms ready, prepare registration packets and set up for rehearsals. We also work orientation days and help in the off-season with the other musical ensembles. Although we are a music service fraternity our work extends further then just band work. The Omicron Chapter makes visits to the local children’s hospital as well as working with after school programs.

The service that the Omicron Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi provides is recognized nationally.  For 9 out of the last 10 biennium the Omicron Chapter has been a finalist for Top Chapter in the Nation (including summer 2011!).  Our chapter received the Top Chapter Award for being the best chapter the Northeast District in 2009, and we have been continually recognized for our work.

Our “rush” process is very simple. We begin the process during the marching season. All of our events will be announced at practice. There is an application process and all are encouraged to attend our rush events. Some events we hosted this past year included Tie-Dye night, Watch parties, and a small stay over before a trip. All of the events were a great success and we know they will be as successful this year!

Being a part of this fraternity is more than just servicing the bands. This group of people becomes a family that is always there for one another. We help each other out, we form close bonds, and above all, we have fun!  Joining this organization only enhanced the pride that I felt when being accepted into the band program.  I have met some of the best people in the world and had some of the most amazing experiences of my college career. All are welcome to rush whether you are a new member of the band or a vet. I hope that you all will consider checking us out and really seeing what you can experience within this chapter!

I hope everyone enjoys the rest of the summer. I can’t wait to see you all at band camp! Don’t hesitate to ask questions to anyone wearing the Kappa Kappa Psi letters! We will be glad to help you in any way that we can!
